Forest Worker Credentialing Program

How to Offer to Students

To offer this credential, educators must follow Georgia Department of Education standards for CTAE pathway course offerings. The Forest Worker exam—delivered through a fully virtual testing platform—serves as the End of Pathway Assessment and includes student certification management, teacher support, and automated communications.

All students must pass the exam to earn the credential. Teachers can request access through the online exam request form. Due to support from the Georgia Forestry Foundation, there is no cost to school districts to administer this test. For more information, contact Maggie Pope.

Overview

The Forest Worker Certificate Program was created to prepare students for career-ready employment in one of the South’s largest and most vital industries. Georgia offers diverse, high-paying opportunities in logging, forest management, timber procurement, sawmills, plywood and paper mills and renewable energy. The program was developed to ensure students have access to modern, forest industry-recognized assessment tools that validate their learning and connect them to real-world careers.

Developed for application across the Southeast, Forestry Worker Credential Assessment uses Georgia-based examples while reflecting forests, management practices, harvesting operations, and mill processes found throughout the region. It aligns with Georgia’s six forestry-related CTAE pathways under the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources (AFNR) Career Cluster, and it has been approved by the Georgia Department of Education to serve as an accredited End of Pathway Assessment for the following pathways:

- Forestry Management Systems
- Forest Mechanical SystemsForest/Natural Resources Management
- Forest/Renewable Energy
- Forest/Wildlife Systems
- Agriculture Leadership in Forestry
