What the job is:
As the Forest Resource Manager, you are responsible for managing and providing leadership to the Forestry Department in all of the policies and procedures associated with the procurement of Timber Harvest Plans (THPs), Silviculture activities, and staff development for the California Operations. The incumbent ensures that all THPs are of the highest ethical and professional standard while complying with State regulations, Green Diamond management guidelines, and Company landscape plans. This position ensures that all forestry staff are well trained and versed in all facets of silviculture, engineering, harvest methods, and natural resource protection to ensure economically viable THPs.
An example of your responsibilities:
- Directly supervises six District Foresters, one Silviculture Superintendent, and has oversight for a Forestry and Silviculture Department staff of approximately 40 individuals including Senior RPFs, RPFs, Silviculture Foresters, Foresters and seasonal Forestry Technicians depending on staffing needs.
- Ensure consistency with forestry and silviculture standards across all six operating districts. Maintains active leadership and communication within each district, fostering a cohesive team assigned to conduct all necessary activities in the assigned acreage.
- Maintains an efficient operation and assures a safe workplace. Promotes active employee participation in all aspects of the Company’s safety programs.
- Oversee the design, development, and supervision of forestry and silviculture activities on the property. Including THPs through all stages up to approval. Ensures that all THP’s comply with all State and Federal regulations, Company landscape plans, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) standards, and are of the highest professional standard and quality.
- Manages the Forestry Department staff to ensure that current and modern forest engineering principles are utilized in road location and harvest unit layout to provide logging operations with the most productive harvest systems with the least environmental impact.
- Manages Forestry staff to ensure all necessary treatments, entries into the stand, PCT, burning and planting activities are conducted to improve the value of the timberlands.
- Manages the development of THPs and related permits to enable Green Diamond to achieve annual harvest levels without operational delays.
Where you work:
Green Diamond’s privately held property is located in Humboldt, Del Norte, and Mendocino counties along the Northern California coast. Here you will work on 400,000 acres of primarily redwood and douglas-fir forests. Our offices are nestled in the redwoods near the Pacific Ocean.
Compensation:
Annual Salary Range: $121,104 - $181,656 per year. The pay range listed is just one component of Green Diamond’s total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive a company-wide annual financial performance bonus, and the opportunity to receive an individual performance-based bonus, candidate referral bonuses, and spot bonuses.
In addition, Green Diamond offers a generous benefit package to include medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing.
