SUMMARY

The Timber Buyer is a hybrid position; a person with equal parts warm, approachable, interpersonal skills, firm negotiation skills and strong analytical skills who is just as comfortable in the forest as they are creating spreadsheets.

JOB BASICS

The primary purpose of the Timber Buyer is to purchase roundwood, chips, wood residuals, and wood waste fuel for Kronospan facilities. The position is also responsible for assisting with obtaining buyers for, and the selling of, excess chips or wood waste fuel. The Timber Buyer analyzes logging trends and makes forecasts of raw material availability and cost. The position is responsible for assisting with the oversight of chipping operations and chip transportation.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

• Must be a strong communicator, at ease with logging crews and the CEO of the company alike.

• Must enjoy spending time outdoors both walking and driving

• Must be knowledgeable of local tree species

• Must be able to forge long-term relationships with landowners, loggers, trucking companies and residual fiber suppliers based on mutual trust

• Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills and must have an analytical, questioning nature

• Must be self-motivated and be able to work with little to no supervision

WHAT WILL PUT YOU AHEAD

• A BS in Forestry Management or similar discipline

• 1-2 years' experience or intern / co-op experience in a timber procurement setting
