Its work is diverse, spanning public policy to habitat conservation. The Federation’s Conservation Policy program engages in legislative and regulatory matters on the local, state and federal levels that affect Tennessee’s natural resources and the interests of those who care about them. Hunters for the Hungry, provides more than a half million meals annually to hungry Tennesseans through venison donations. Tennessee Scholastic Clay Target Program promotes the shooting sports and an outdoor lifestyle to nearly 2,000 student-athletes across the state. Hunting and Fishing Academy provides hands-on outdoor experiences to our next generation of sportsmen and women. Tennessee Wildlife Federation is actively involved in wildlife and habitat stewardship initiatives through its Habitat Conservation program.
Tennessee Wildlife Federation seeks a dynamic individual to join its habitat conservation team as a remote employee based out of West Tennessee. This full time position will be hands on in the field creating forest management plans as outlined in the RCPP grant establishing this position. Forest and grassland management plans will support wildlife habitat, sequester carbon, reduce wind and water erosion, and build forest health and resilience by reducing the risk of habitat loss.
Key Qualifications and Duties: (Full Job Description)
A degree in forestry or closely related field with three plus years of professional experience. A graduate degree in forestry or closely related field can substitute for professional experience
In-depth understanding of industry best practices for forest and grassland management ∙ Experience with plant identification in Tennessee
Proven ability to manage multiple projects, produce effective results, and meet deadlines ∙ Develop forest or grassland management plans that focus on best practices to achieve the objectives outlined in the RCPP grant
Conduct outreach and education activities that engage private landowners to foster interest in enrolling the Farm Bill Programs
Ability to travel as directed to cover assignments across the West Tennessee region
