Cultivating Success: Arnulfo Zendejas' Journey in the Forest Industry

Meet Arnulfo Zendejas, a harvesting manager based in Brandon, MS, who has cultivated a rich career in the forest industry. Arnulfo originally considered both civil engineering and forestry career paths, but ultimately decided on earning his forestry degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Arnulfo has served in many roles throughout his career, and his experience exemplifies the growth and rewarding opportunities available in the industry.

Arnulfo’s journey began as an Assistant District Forester with Georgia Pacific in Crossett, AR. He later became a District Forester managing approximately 120,000 acres, and then took on roles as an Analyst with GP. He served in a similar capacity at Plum Creek and then became Marketing Manager with Weyerhaeuser after the Plum Creek merger in 2016. Arnulfo now serves as a Harvesting Manager in the Brookhaven district.

A typical day for Arnulfo involves managing up to six loggers, overseeing the production of about 65 daily loads of timber delivered to various mills. His favorite part of the job is the flexibility it offers, allowing him to spend significant time in the woods—checking on loggers and planning harvests according to market needs.

Arnulfo emphasizes the importance of strong communication skills in his role, highlighting that effective collaboration with loggers is essential to meet customer volume commitments. For young people considering a career in forestry, he offers this advice: " Forestry is a great field to grow, enjoy what you love and to provide for your family. It’s not for everyone, yet those that venture into it are well pleased at end of their careers.”

With his extensive experience and passion for the outdoors, Arnulfo Zendejas exemplifies the rewarding opportunities available in the forestry sector.
