Reporting to the Plant Manager, the EHS Manager provides leadership and strategic direction by building a partnership with front-line leadership and collaborating with business partners to develop and mentor the production team relating to EHS. In this role, you will examine and audit existing working conditions, equipment, processes, and systems to determine points of potential hazard and opportunities for better safety practices. You will develop and implement safe working processes, educating all levels of staff on best practices. Our ideal candidate has at least a bachelor's degree in occupational safety, engineering, or a relevant field. You must also have excellent communication and leadership skills and a thorough understanding of industry regulatory requirements.

Safety Manager Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop a high-level understanding of workplace processes and equipment to best discern opportunities for improvement and the elimination of unsafe conditions.
  • Educate leadership staff regarding safety regulatory requirements and changes.
  • Investigate accidents, facilitate root cause analysis, report findings, and develop corrective actions for all accidents occurring at the facility.
  • Manage workers compensation claims with the assistance of the insurance carrier
  • Assets with the development and implementation of corporate safety projects as needed.
  • Conduct health & safety new hire orientation for all employees.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, and electronic submission.
  • Increasing critical hazard awareness thereby reducing the likelihood of at-risk behaviors
  • Ensure an effective change management process is in place.
  • Conducting routine management reviews and adjusting plans as necessary.
  • Provide ongoing support to our members and leadership team in the identification of workplace hazards, reporting and investigation of incidents, and the development of a comprehensive safety program.
  • Contributes to the health screening process, health education programs, OSHA recordkeeping, hearing conservation process, etc.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Safety, Environmental, or related field, OR EHS experience in manufacturing, industrial or military environment

Five (5+) plus years of safety experience in an industrial, military, or manufacturing process environment

Experience with OSHA, state, and local safety and compliance standards

Experience leading process safety programs

Previous experience writing SOP’s and JSA’s required

Experience onboarding and developing employees, helping to foster a safety-driven culture.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Must be able to tolerate extreme hot, humid, cold, and outdoor conditions. Comfortable working in loud environment, around moving machinery, with vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
