This position is accountable for purchasing and harvesting 35,000 tons of standing timber (40% summer accessible) with the goal to supply high quality fiber to the Cloquet Mill from NW Wisconsin. This position is intended to provide the incumbent with the necessary experience to eventually qualify for the Forester 2 position. As such, the entry requirements for the position are intended to include;
Forestry field skills, ability to cruise timber, lay out forest roads, work with contract logging companies, comply with Best Management Practices, negotiating skills, computer literacy in spreadsheets, word processing, network systems access skills and knowledge of wood procurement information systems, excellent interpersonal skills, General knowledge of Certification programs, general knowledge of the forest products industry.
Additionally, this position will be responsible for the regional certification coordination. As the regional certification lead you will work with the North American Certification Manager to ensure certification standards are met within our staff, Stay on top of changes in the various programs and help communicate that to the team, help coordinate internal and external audits, participate in regional/state SIC’s and attend National Certification Conventions to help ensure Sappi has a presence in these areas.
Job Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for purchasing and harvesting 35,000 tons of private standing timber with the goal to supply high quality fiber and fuel to the Cloquet mill from NW Wisconsin.
Candidate will manage and maintain a logging force to harvest and deliver the wood, promote and practice land stewardship ethics to ensure compliance with forest certification, maintain record-keeping to track stumpage and support logger/landowner relations.
Regional Certification lead, work with the North American Certification Manager to ensure certification standards are met within our staff, Stay on top of changes in the various programs and help communicate that to the team, help coordinate internal and external audits, participate in regional/state SIC’s and attend National Certification Conventions.
Required Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in Forestry
Strong communication skills
Computer literacy in spreadsheets, ARC, word processing and network systems.
Strong value for safety.
Willingness to travel throughout the Lake States. The focus area will be NW Wisconsin.
Must be able to acquire knowledge in areas of logging systems and related laws, including environmental certification and BMP’s
Working knowledge of GIS/GPS systems.
Must have valid State Drivers License.
Must be able to acquire a working knowledge of registry and country tax maps to be able to trace ownership.
