Responsibilities

  • Assists with the implementation of the silviculture program to effectively establish and manage conifer plantations.
  • Performs contract administration for silvicultural activities including oversight of tree planting, vegetation management, site preparation, and pre-commercial thinning.
  • Conducts field work associated with the layout of herbicide treatment areas, pre-commercial thinning and reforestation areas
  • Performs stocking surveys and other monitoring activities in accordance with state and Company compliance standards
  • Produces accurate and legible field GIS maps for contractors in ArcGIS Pro
  • Maintain documentation electronically of all silvicultural activities and coordinate with the GIS manager to ensure silvicultural treatments tracked
  • Evaluate and recommend site-specific silvicultural requirements including mechanical and chemical site prep, regeneration needs, herbicide treatments and PCT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resources or related field is preferred.
  • California Pest Control Advisors (PCA) license with weed and vertebrate pest categories is preferred but will consider candidates who can pass the PCA exam within 2 years.
  • Experience with field navigation including topographic maps, GPS, compass, and PLSS systems.
  • Candidates must be able to hike, sometimes traveling long distances, along closed roads or trails, often in steep, brushy terrain.
  • Skilled in the use of computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and GIS-based programs
  • Candidates must be able to confidently, safely, and efficiently navigate logging roads with a 4WD vehicle or ATV in areas with little or no cell phone reception.
  • Self-motivation, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Must be able to work independently and alone in the field.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively, and the ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus

Salary & Benefits

This is a full-time exempt position based on education, experience and qualifications with a preliminary salary range of $50,000 to $85,000. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, holidays, vacation, and 401k with employer match available to full-time employees.
