Mobile Log Loader and Processor Operator

POSITION PURPOSE:

Processes and manufactures tree length logs safely and efficiently using a hydraulic log loading machine with a processing head. This consists of removal of branches and cutting the logs to proper length. The processed logs are then moved to the roadside to be loaded on log trucks. Once enough logs are processed, the operator loads the logs onto trucks headed for local sawmills. Good communication skills and work ethic are a must.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (other duties may be assigned)

• Operate a hydraulic log loader with processing head.
• Know and understand log quality and sorting requirements.
• Communicate effectively with Hooktender and logging crew.
• Understand the working functions of a machine to perform the job safely and efficiently.
• Check all fluid levels and perform some daily maintenance.
• Able to safely operate a chain saw or other hand tools on the landing.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Prior experience operating logging equipment and/or loading.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
• Valid CA drivers’ license.
• Establish effective and professional relationships with co-workers.
• Effective and productive communication skills; speaks well, communicates ideas clearly. Is approachable and open to discussion.
• Conduct self in a professional manner always. Treat others with respect always. Does not tolerate discrimination based on race, gender, religion, ethnic background, or national origin. Share knowledge with others; participates in mentoring.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Works primarily (90%+) of the time in the field under varying topography and climatic extremes.
• Ability to orient, climb, and traverse steep, rugged, and/or densely vegetated terrain on a consistent basis in sometimes harsh weather conditions for long periods of time.
• Maintain punctual and regular attendance.
• Work with integrity, trust, and commitment.
