Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Nursery Manager to join our Southern Timberlands team in Magnolia, AR. 

The Nursery Manager is a key leadership position that is part of Weyerhaeuser's Southern Regeneration business, and reports to the Director of Silviculture and Southern Regeneration. As the Nursery Manager, you will oversee the nursery’s financial and operational performance, team development and strategy execution. The Southern Regeneration business is a key part of Southern Timberlands and consists of three pine seedling nurseries and six seed orchards. The Southern Regeneration team produces approximately 180 million seedlings per year. The Magnolia Nursery produces approximately 50 million bareroot seedlings per year. This role is currently offering a hiring bonus up to $5,000!

Key Functions:

  • Lead and influence strategic management activities including environmental, health, and safety programs; 
  • Review planning and implementation of sow, culture, crop management, crop protection, and harvest; 
  • Manage and develop a team of productions specialists and nursery technicians
  • Budgeting, purchasing, site protection; Understand impact of key activities to seed efficiency, including creation of action plan to reduce identified deficiencies
  • Contract administration for key nursery activities (e.g., fumigation, harvest, weed control, etc.)
  • Develop facility and equipment maintenance and capital replacement plan
  • Ensure all required permits and licenses are current to ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate expectations
  • Develop and maintain a working relationship with Nursery Cooperative
  • Interact with customers regarding seedling needs and seedling performance, and assist sales with customer relations.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Forestry, Agriculture Engineering, Soil Science or Agronomy with at least 4 years of related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must live within 1-hour of the Magnolia Nursery; Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Desire to inspire and lead a diverse team of people to achieve and exceed expectations
  • Excellent communication, time management and negotiation skills
  • Solid business/financial understanding including P&L drivers, budgeting, administration, & capital implementation; 
  • Experience with tractor/implement operation.
  • Maintenance acumen desirable
  • Proven experience in situational management, coaching, and team building
  • Background in loblolly pine crop establishment, development, and harvest
  • Understanding of and commitment to meeting customer value delivery expectations
  • Passionate about innovation and continuous improvement.
