Job Summary:
EP Carbon is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Forester to lead forestry operations aimed at enhancing ecosystem health and maximizing carbon sequestration in U.S. forests. The successful candidate will play a key role in forest management planning, timber harvesting oversight, silviculture, reforestation, and forest inventory. This role involves supervising third-party contractors, engaging with stakeholders, landowners and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal forestry regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills to support project execution, monitoring, and reporting. This is a remote and field-based position, preferably for candidates located in Southern Arkansas (AR) or Northern Louisiana (LA). The role requires regular travel to project sites for field assessments, operational oversight, and on-the-ground forest management activities.
Prior experience with forest carbon project development is not required.
The Forester maintains a home office and vehicle stipend and mileage reimbursement for work-related travel. This position is a permanent appointment starting as early as May 2025. This is a full-time, salaried position.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage forest harvesting operations, ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
- Conduct site surveys to assess stand conditions, soil quality, and suitability for planned forestry operations.
- Conduct on-site inspections and audits of forestry operations, including harvesting, planting, and inventory activities, to ensure adherence to best management practices, sustainability standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Plan, supervise, and evaluate tree planting and reforestation activities to promote forest regeneration.
- Implement and manage forest inventory programs, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Supervise and coordinate third-party contractors, including logging crews, planting teams, and inventory specialists.
- Design and implement field trials and experimental designs to test forestry treatments, monitor impacts, and inform adaptive management.
- Maintain and develop relationships with forestry operators, contractors, and industry professionals in the Southeastern region
- Collaborate with landowners and government agencies, to implement sustainable forestry projects.
- Engage with private landowners to promote the adoption of new forest management techniques
- Identity and work with real estate brokers for land acquisition opportunities
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal forestry laws and best management practices.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
- Extensive experience in overseeing forestry operations, including supervision of third-party contractors and service providers.
- Proven expertise in developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive forest management plans to enhance sustainability, productivity, and regulatory compliance.
- Experience in designing field experiments and applying statistical analysis to evaluate forestry practices and outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of Southeastern forestry practices, silviculture, and timber markets.
- Strong industry connections within the Southeastern forestry network, including relationships with professionals, landowners, and contractors.
- Proficient in use of smartphone technology (and experience troubleshooting issues), digital cameras, GPS devices, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage operations effectively.
- Willingness to travel as needed to oversee field operations (frequently).
- Able to work effectively with remote team members throughout the U.S.
- Certified Forester (CF) credential is required.
