Sawmill Worker Credentialing Program

How to Offer to Students

In order for an Alabama educator to offer this credential to their students as an approved credential, the educator must attend one of our workshops.

All students must pass the Sawmill Worker exam to earn the Sawmill Worker Credential. This exam can be accessed by the teachers through the online exam request form. Contact David Benefield for more information.

Overview

The Sawmill Worker Certificate Program was developed to prepare future workers for employment in one of the South’s largest industries. Employment opportunities in lumber manufacturing facilities vary from entry-level workers, equipment operators, and office administrators to mill managers. This credential aims to give students an introduction to Sawmilling in Alabama and guide them along the career path to meaningful, local careers.

This curriculum has been developed specifically for application across the South. Although many examples from Alabama are used, similar forests, management techniques, harvesting operations and mill operations are found throughout the Southeast.
